CROPLIFE AMERICA DUMPS LAST MINUTE $50K INTO SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST MEASURE H

MONSANTO, DuPONT AND DOW CHEMICAL CORPORATION SPENDING MORE THAN TRIPLES RECORD FOR MOST MONEY EVER SPENT IN MENDOCINO COUNTY ELECTION HISTORY

Just one week before the March 2 election, CropLife America, the industry group representing the largest producers of genetically altered food and seed dumped yet ANOTHER $50,000 into the smear campaign against Measure H, according to finance records filed with the county clerk.

The 11th Hour contribution to the NO campaign means industryspending has soared to a total of $370,500 -- shattering all local spending records. "This staggering amount of money they are having to spend shows they don't have good arguments or local support," said Allen Cooperrrider, treasurer for the Yes on Measure H campaign. "All they can do is blitz the media with their smear campaign."

Monsanto, Dow Chemical, DuPont and other billion-dollar corporations have now contributed a total of $350,000 under the guise of CropLife America, a Washington-DC industry front group that is bankrolling and directing the local NO campaign.

The No campaign has received just one local $500 contribution. The rest of the money -- $370,000 -- has all come from outside Mendocino County.

The Yes on Measure H campaign has raised $67,117 this year from more than 1,400 local residents and businesses, according to spending reports.

Measure H will prohibit the "propagation, cultivation, raising and growing of genetically modified organisms in Mendocino County." It is not a labeling law. And Measure H does not affect biotech medicine, food products found in the aisles of grocery stores or livestock feed.
